Today Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, joined with Regional and Council Members to sign Partnership Accord, with Eabametoong First Nation Community.

Eabametoong is an Ojibway First Nation, located 360 kilo meters north of Thunder Bay, Ontarion and about 1000 kilo meters north of Markham. Only 1500 people live here and Eabametoong is accessible by air and winter road.

This remarkable event took place and Markham Civic Center and the speakers of today’s event were Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Ken Caplan, Advisor and Facilitator of Partnership Agreement, Emma Tworzyanski, a Grade 12 student at Bill Crothers Secondary School, Markham and the members of Markham Council.

We should note that Eabametoong First nation is mainly a cash economy with limited employment opportunities. This about to change as Markham and EFN forge a relationship that will bring some big ideas to fruition through a number expressions of support.
